FAQs

I know that most homeschool co-ops require a parent to stay or to do a job.  How does this work for Enrichment Day?

I would like to have parents take a turn staying to be a helper.  It would probably work out to once or twice for the entire year.  If you have younger children or a schedule that makes that too difficult or impossible, don't let it be a deal-breaker for you.  We can work it out.  Ideally we would have a second trusted adult with us at Enrichment Day.

Other than that, you are free to drop off/pick up your kids.  Enjoy a day to yourself, or spend your time concentrating on your other children!

How many participants will be at Enrichment Day?

Due to the limits of the space in our home, I think 12-15 will be our maximum this year.  The students will be in middle and high school.  Erica Johns will be there as the responsible adult and facilitator for the day.

My child has allergies.  Do you have indoor pets?  What about smoking?

We have a non-smoking home.  We do have an indoor cat, a couple outdoor cats, and two dogs.  We won't let the pets pester anyone during Enrichment Day, but they may be around.  :)

Can parents stay to observe?

Parents are always welcome.  However, our meeting space is very limited, so it may become quite crowded if parents make a habit of hanging out.  Space on the couches and at the tables needs to be for the students to participate.  We can set up chairs around the perimeter of the room if parents would like to observe.

My child is really unsure about this tea time idea.  Is it girlie?  Will my son hate it?  What is it?

You know, I've got 4 boys that are still being homeschooled.  They all thought that tea time meant it would be girlie, too.  It's not.  Men and women have been taking a tea time for centuries and in many cultures.  It becomes a beloved part of the day, when things are made a little bit nicer than usual, we enjoy some treats, and we just sit together and share a few poems that we like.  It's interesting, relaxing, fun, and soothing all at once.  Poetry can be intimidating to kids and parents, alike.  So often in an educational setting, poetry is analyzed and picked at such that it isn't that enjoyable.  What Poetry Tea Time does is allows us to just enjoy the beauty of the language, to think about the words, and to be immersed in the experience that poetry has to offer.  Some of it is hilarious!  Some of it is so beautiful that it might make you feel very quiet for awhile.  Poetry is all around us, and deserves to be enjoyed and appreciated in a natural way.

True story:  I thought my boys might like it better if we changed Poetry Tea Time to something more "manly" like Poetry Pub.  (We could serve root beer and sliders, I thought!)  Know what?  They opted to stick with the tea time.  :)  They like the snacks.  And the cool tea cups they got.  :)  I'm confident that if your kids give it a try, they'll find that they think Poetry Tea Time is pretty cool too.

What if my child doesn't like it and wants to quit?  What's your refund policy?

Tuition is paid in advance of each semester.  There are no refunds for dropping out or for absences.  If you choose to withdraw your child from the program, we will open up the spot to someone on the waiting list.
